I really enjoyed today's film. I have watched the film before and it was good to be reminded that men and women conversations are indeed different. Men will take in conversations in a whole different way compared to women, it is just their nature. Only because he seems not to be listening does not mean he is not listening. It reminds me of my own relationship and as I think about I could say that many of the arguments I have had with my partner are due to not understanding his "conversational rituals."
Understanding the differences between men and women, I think, can make relationships better. A man will never be what a women expects and vice versa and that is because we are socialized differently. . . . . . . Great film.
The Tannen Video really made me realize why my friendships with guys and girls are different. My best friend gets mad when i tell someone news before i tell her or when i don't tell her my feelings or thoughts or secrets, she claims we are distancing apart; and with guys is totally different you do not have to keep the updated to keep their friendship.
ReplyDeleteso what can be done to promote greater cooperation and understanding between men and women?
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed the film and the researcher's approach by analyzing children to explain how gender behaviors develop into adulthood.
ReplyDeleteI have talked to at least 6 different people about the video and it has given me alot of insight on how to change my conversational style to talk to women and men. I think this video was extremely useful in discussing the difference in communication between the genders.
ReplyDeleteI really liked the film and wouldnt mind going to an actual face to face lecture on the topic. It really makes you think outside the box when it comes to men and women. I found myself saying "oh that's why" a lot of times. It makes you realize how we could be very different or the same in a lot of ways.
ReplyDeleteI as well enjoyed the film and it has expanded my views about previous conversations in past relationships. Though I don't think knowing it then and trying to explain would have helped the issue otherwise. Though it is good to know another angle of the same scene in order to see it in a better perspective.
