Dating

Why is it usually the men asking the women out? What if... the norm was WOMEN asking the men out? How would that be different? Would our expected roles change? For females, would u want to ask a guy out or prefer men to do the asking ? . . . For males, how do u feel about a woman asking a guy out?

Part-Time work

Most employers often require a full-time commitment and reward those who conform to an "ideal worker norm" that demonstrates their loyalty and willingness to prioritize their workplace demands. This indeed, keeps part-time women from assuming leadership positions!

My question is: Is part-time work in women's best intersts? What can working mommys do in order to succeed as a person even though she has "labor" house commitment with children? Do you think that the norms/policies such as the "mommy track" at work are enough to help working mothers?

Is there such thing as "LOVE FOREVER", or it's just something we want to have forever with a person that we feel love for?
Does the love we have last forever?
What do males and females feel about this?

Conversations with males and females

After watching the movie last Wednesday I started to notice what and how I sit when I’m taking to my girlfriends in compared to my guy friends. And it is true when I was chatting with the girls other the weekend we always try to sit in a circle or we place ourselves in positions where we all can look at each other. When we are taking most of our conversation are about feelings and emotions ex-relationships and new relationships. I also notice something else that we try to sugar coat thing not to be so mean about things. However, I have lots a male friends and when they want to talk about something they text me about out maybe in that sense we don’t have to look at each other. When I do have a conversation with my guy friends and we are talking about a relationship and they never sugar coat anything they are always saying “do you really want to know the true cause you might not want to hear what I’m going to tell you”. Also they are talking to me but doing other things like playing video games, watching T.V or eating. It has never really bothered me but my boyfriends it a different sorry I want him to look at me and make sure he is paying attention to me but now I know that that’s the way males and females communicate with each other.

Reaction to or examples of Tannen findings

Hey students. I am a 'lil disappointed not to see any reactions to the Tannen film, so I'll start. I was dating someone once who was very elusive: handsome, but elusive. My woman friend asked me what color were his eyes. I said, "He doesn't have any!" He did, but I couldn't remember ever reallly seeing them.
"They say" that the way to a man's heart is through his stomach. (Is it true, men?) Maybe there should be a saying: "The way to a woman is through her eyes," although if the connection isn't there, the woman can be annoyed by an "unrequested" gaze. But if you have her "attention" and want it to last, lOOk!

Recommending a post below

As Gloria Steinam says in the post below that says "this is a link", "Until there is democracy in the home, there will be no democracy outside the home." Hey! Great posts and comments, everyone. You are making this work.

Beautiful Girl

I have TVF 300 something or whatever, and we were on a topic today about how women in sports aren't really glorified based on their winnings on the sport event. We watched a clip where this golfer name Michelle Wei was sponsered by Cindy Crawford. Keep in mind that Michelle never won a gold tournament. The narrator mentioned," She plays golf, she's gorgeous, and has a nice personality". But, she was sponsored a lot due to her "cute" looks. Now, we compare it to...umm...I think her name was Pat or something. She's a race car driver and won a couple races. She wasn't endorsed or anything =/ just had a serious interview. No fancy photo shoot or cutting the rope like Michelle did.

The point was that even though a girl is in sports, she still has to have beauty. The professor pointed out that if it was a guy playing a sport and gets endorsed, they get endorsed based on their winnings and status regardless of what they look like.

"Arranged" marriages

  • With Western culture: Fall in love - then get married.
  • With traditional cultures: Marry - then learn to love.
we need to figure out how to blend the two.
