I have TVF 300 something or whatever, and we were on a topic today about how women in sports aren't really glorified based on their winnings on the sport event. We watched a clip where this golfer name Michelle Wei was sponsered by Cindy Crawford. Keep in mind that Michelle never won a gold tournament. The narrator mentioned," She plays golf, she's gorgeous, and has a nice personality". But, she was sponsored a lot due to her "cute" looks. Now, we compare it to...umm...I think her name was Pat or something. She's a race car driver and won a couple races. She wasn't endorsed or anything =/ just had a serious interview. No fancy photo shoot or cutting the rope like Michelle did.
The point was that even though a girl is in sports, she still has to have beauty. The professor pointed out that if it was a guy playing a sport and gets endorsed, they get endorsed based on their winnings and status regardless of what they look like.
I think in reality, every person is based on their appearance. For example, new generation of female singers in Asia are mostly young and beautiful. It doesnt matter if they could sing or not. Its all about the looks. I see women are being cast as an object for attraction. In order to attract others, beautiful young women are being use as bait. I guess most people cant seem to get over the fact that talent is more important than appearance.
ReplyDeleteWha hoo!! I totally agree with you NeroRecord. Appearance is I guess what you call everything. It's almost like you can get away with anything if you have the attractive trait.
ReplyDelete*noddles* That's very true NeroRecord =]
ReplyDeleteI agree with Mclovin's point and with what NeroRecord posted. The other female athlete was Danica Patrick the Indy car driver, but she is also endorsed and has made commercials in the past.
ReplyDelete"beautiful young women are being use as bait," In a way I agree with NeroRecords, but women also chooses to be use too. For example I notice women in a jogging class today, and the first thing i saw was make-up in their faces while running...is just jogging you know!
ReplyDeletei know that though the comment is true about "beautiful women being used as bait", I believe that its up to those women to try and brake the scheme and show that they have a brain to go along with their appearance. For example the Indian sensation Aishwarya Rai who is placed as one of the most beautiful in the world, was mentioned in an article once whom speculated that if she wasn't as pretty would she have gone as far as she has gone.
