"a husband can demand sex with his wife every four days unless she is ill or would be harmed by intercourse — a clause that critics say legalizes marital rape." This is horrible to know, basically women in Afghani don't have rights. I wonder what drives this country to harrass women in such a ways. Don't they know that women are humans too, they have the same rights as men. Why do they think like this?
Could this be anymore absurd? Women and men SHOULD be equal but in the real world, I guess this idea doesn't exist. Its only an idea that we pretend to try and practice...
On the subject of the husband being able to demand sex every four days unless she is ill or would be harmed by intercourse- OUTRAGED me. I would HATE to have my husband DEMAND sex from me. If he demanded sex from I would pretend to be ill all the time! I think this whole situation makes the husband (the men)seem so powerful and the women helpless. The men are on top and the women are on the bottom ( don't think sexual now... I'm referring to the idea of hierarchy of men and women). I think sex is sacred between husband and wife and shouldn't be abused, it should always be consensual.
This new law may have more women not wanting to marry. If I was a women, I am basically looking forward to rape with my husband every four days. Whoo..hoo....
It is very absurd that the Afghan government legalizes marital rape by passing a law. This law allows husband can demand sex with his wife every four days. Doesn’t the Afghan government know this is the 21th century? Even though Afghan men has their power over women; women should be treated as human instead of animal and being "abused" by their husband.
I read somewhere that you can see the rise and fall (economically) of the Middle Eastern countries by the extend of repression of women: as right of women increase, the economies become better, and vice versa.
After reading all these comments above. I feel outraged that Afghani women are being treated like this. They should have the right that they deserve. They are human beings just like the men. And the thought of rape, just send chills down my back.
Poor Afghan woman. That law sucks. This is way off the subject, but I saw a good movie related to the issue of rape in marriage. The movie "The Dutchess" The Queen is raped by her husband/King. The King has an affair with the Queens friend who lives with them and the Queen is forced to live w/her husband as he continues raping her for a son to heir the throne and is in love w/the Queen's friend. True story I believe.
