Part-Time work

Most employers often require a full-time commitment and reward those who conform to an "ideal worker norm" that demonstrates their loyalty and willingness to prioritize their workplace demands. This indeed, keeps part-time women from assuming leadership positions!

My question is: Is part-time work in women's best intersts? What can working mommys do in order to succeed as a person even though she has "labor" house commitment with children? Do you think that the norms/policies such as the "mommy track" at work are enough to help working mothers?

  1. Its so hard for a mom to find a job that ideally works with her schedule, I think they have to sacrafice something in order to get somewhere especially if they are single mothers this is definetly a down side to parenthood on a mothers part. But if there is a father involved it is very possible for a mother to work full time, your kids get to school age and you dont have so much guilt about leaving for work or you schedule swap with dad. Where there is a will there is a way a mom dosnt have to only work part time.

  2. One of my friend happen to be a single mom, she did have a hard time looking for jobs at first. But lucky, she find a job as a clerk in an independent law firm. Her boss was a woman, so she under what my friend was going through while working and taking care of her baby. Also, her parents help her to take care of her child while she is working. Therefore, she have one less problem to worry about. If her boss was a man, i don't think she would be able to continue her job (even as a part time) employee. I felt that it is difficult to work rather full time or part time while being a mom.
